One week after the Dakar 2015 came to an end in Buenos Aires, Team DESSOUDE in back in Normandy and is waiting for the cars to return. After 13 not exactly new stages, it is time for André DESSOUDE to draw up a report of this rather forgettable edition, but more importantly to look ahead, towards the future.

Leg 12 : Termas Rio Hondo - Rosario (01/16/2015)
Liaison: 248 km - SS: 298 km - Liaison: 478 km
Final straight…
The penultimate stage of this 38th Dakar was the longest of the 2015 edition, with a total distance of just over 1000 km. On the 298 km timed sector, there was more to lose than to win, with the possibility of jeopardising the hopes of climbing on the final podium tomorrow in Buenos Aires. For the two Team DESSOUDE crews, there were no particular problems. They covered the kilometres at a good pace, and on crossing the finish line, Thierry MAGNALDI and Guy LENEVEU had set the 22nd fastest time. Very much at ease on this route, the Juke Buggy was able to really show what it could do, despite the many potential traps and the ever-present dust. A fine, consistent performance which placed the #328 just over 14’ behind the leaders. Thierry looks back over his day.

Final straight…

Leg 11 : Salta - Termas Rio Hondo (01/15/2015)
Liaison: 184 km - SS: 194 km - Liaison: 142 km
D-2 for Buenos Aires… Team DESSOUDE is not letting go!
Between Salta and Termas de Rio Hondo, the remaining Dakar competitors were able to enjoy themselves on the 194 km timed stage. A very technical special stage, designed for drivers, through magnificent scenery. Keeping up a high pace throughout the route, Thierry MAGNALDI, Guy LENEVEU and Juke Buggy finished the stage in 28th position.

D-2 for Buenos Aires… Team DESSOUDE is not letting go!
Between Salta and Termas de Rio Hondo, the remaining Dakar competitors were able to enjoy themselves on the 194 km timed stage. A very technical special stage, designed for drivers, through magnificent scenery. Keeping up a high pace throughout the route, Thierry MAGNALDI, Guy LENEVEU and Juke Buggy finished the stage in 28th position.

Leg 10 : Calama (Chile) - Salta (Argentina) 01/14/2015

Back in Argentina and heading south!
Today, the caravan of the 38th Dakar crossed the Cordillera of the Andes once again, although in the opposite direction, heading to Argentina. Another tough day for the competitors, in particular on the physical side, due to the great differences in altitude. For Team DESSOUDE, this 10th stage presented no particular problems, either for Thierry MAGNALDI or for LIU Kun, who both put in faultless performances. But the bad weather in recent days did not make things easy, having worn the track away and created some real holes. Plenty of potential traps that had to be avoided on the 358 km timed stage.

LEG 9 : Iquique - Calama (Chile) - 01/13/2015

The final 100% Chilean stage!
After a much-appreciated rest day, the remaining Dakar 2015 competitors got back on the road today, heading for Caluma, the end-point of the 9th stage. Another stage of sand, dunes, banks and holes. The itinerary was actually identical to that in 2014, but run in the opposite direction with, in addition, the marks of the previous edition. The day before crossing back over the Cordillera of the Andes to Argentina, the organisers have not chosen the easy option, and it was clearly not going to be a picnic.

Catching your breath before the second round…
A rest day is always much appreciated on the Dakar, especially after such a hard marathon stage which saw difficulty after difficulty. In Iquique, Monday was therefore an opportunity for the crews to sleep, to rest and to chat with the other competitors. A special moment to share with the team as well. A quiet moment for Thierry MAGNALDI, Guy LENEVEU, LIU Kun and LIAO Min to catch their breath before carrying on.

Leg 8 : Uyuni (Bolivia) - Iquique (Chile) - 01/11/2015

End of the marathon and back in Chile!
After a night spent in Bolivia at the Uyuni bivouac, without any assistance, the Team DESSOUDE crews headed back to Chile this morning with the second part of the marathon stage. No fewer than 808 km to cover in order to return to the Iquique bivouac, including 784 km of special stage, of which 274 were neutralised. With finish line right in the bivouac, the final ten kilometres included gigantic dunes with their famous, vertiginous descents.

End of the marathon and back in Chile!

Iquique and Uyuni was only the first half of a marathon stage drawn up by the organisers. There had not been any such
marathon stages for cars in recent years, hence there was some apprehension from the crews. In a so-called ‘marathon
stage’, there is no assistance at the bivouac, and the crews have to cope alone with their cars, using only the tools they have on board.

A problem-free day and 22nd-fastest time for the JUKE Buggy !
Today saw the competitors head for Iquique, the town in the far north of Chile that was not only the end of the stage but
will also be the location of the rest day in day two days time. The sixth stage included 322 km of liaison, most of which ran along the coast, before setting off to attack the 277 km timed sector.

Fesh-fesh and the Pacific for Team DESSOUDE…
This second Chilean stage, between Copiapo and Antofagasta, saw an identical route for the three categories in this 38th
edition of the Dakar, cars, bikes and trucks. Between fast tracks and some more tricky or more technical sections, it was not easy to find bearings to maintain a consistent pace. Nor was it always possible to avoid the sharp rocks hidden in the fesh-fesh.

Welcome to Chile…and into the Atacama !
Today saw the Dakar change country, sliding from Argentina into Chile by crossing the majestic Cordillera of the Andes. The long, 594-km, liaison section was mostly at high altitude, over 4000 metres, in the heart of a lunar landscape slightly closer to the sun. A fascinating spectacle. But for those competitors still in the race, there was no time to admire the
scenery, as they had to continue with a 315 km timed stage.

This third stage of the 38th edition of the Dakar took place through magnificent locations, in the heart of some of the most beautiful scenery in Argentina. For those who survived yesterday’s hellish conditions, those who managed to reach
the San Juan bivouac before nightfall, like Thierry Magnaldi and Guy Leneveu, it was a short night before getting back on the trails heading towards Chilecito, the end-point of today’s stage.

This second leg between Villa Carlos Paz and San Juan had the longest special stage of the rally, 518 km, a true showpiece in the heat and on a very bad track where the fesh fesh chose to spice up the run.

The stage of the day was relatively short, 170 km, but the leg was particularly long with nearly 700 km of liaison in total to
join Villa Carlos Paz. The crews of the DESSOUDE team negotiated with caution this first run on the Argentine tracks. The
three cars have reached the finish without any mechanical problem while maintaining a good pace.

For all those who love rally raids, the end of the year is synonymous with the start of the most legendary of races, the Dakar. For Team Dessoude, who will be entering three cars, this new adventure started with a great surprise, the sort of surprise that cannot be anticipated and which does a lot of good. So close to Christmas, thoughts inevitably turn to presents
